President's Letter
Healing is powerful. Over the last 40 years, the Community Health Centers of Burlington have stood strong and focused on healing Vermonters regardless of their life circumstances. Each year, we provide the medical, dental and behavioral health care that over 13,000 community members need to be healthy and productive. We relieve pain, help babies grow and thrive and give hope to struggling Vermonters who thought suffering was a foregone conclusion. Our community impact, like our care, is powerful, positive and lasting.
We're doing the right thing, and it works.
We understand that many people are exhausted by the economy. The last few years have been tumultuous and we know, firsthand, what effect the economic times have had on our community. Yet, all through this time, we stayed strong for our community. We provided health care to the 1,100 homeless men, women, children and teens that came to us knowing there was nowhere else to go. We treated and educated over 600 low-income Burlington kids who came to school without dental care. Over 2,000 low-income community residents used our Sliding-Fee Scale to pay for their health care with dignity. Knowing all of this, we like to think of CHCB as a bright spot in tough times.
Whatever lies ahead in health care reform or in our country's unstable financial periods, we have accomplished, and will continue to accomplish, the work that needs to be done for our community. We will never stop healing.
