CHCB Receives Stimulus Funding
In recognition of the important role of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) in health care reform, special capital stimulus funds have been awarded to all Vermont FQHCs. Earmarked for special capital investment only, CHCB was awarded $699,000 to help shore up our aging technology infrastructure and refurbish our main facility and Safe Harbor Clinic sites. Designed to both stimulate the local economy and expand access to affordable health care during this severe recession, the CHCB award will create construction jobs and position our health center for growth to meet community needs for access to care.
Specific upgrades to enhance patient care and access include some reception and medical records area renovations, addition of an exam room and dental operatory and a new telephone system. While CHCB has had electronic medical records for several years, our computer equipment and servers are very outdated. Investment in new technology infrastructure will greatly improve energy efficiency and create a greener work environment. All renovation materials, including, paint and flooring will also meet environmentally friendly guidelines for best practice in construction.
Coupled with other stimulus funds directed to growth in patient care, CHCB recently added an Eligibility Specialist to assist Vermonters in finding affordable health program options and prescription assistance. CHCB is also conducting recruitment for two primary care physicians to expand local access to affordable health care. We are proud to have been selected as a recipient of these important funds and look forward to continuing to serve our community as a growing employer and safety net health and human service providers.
