On May 31st, 2012 the former Keeler Bay Family Practice closed its doors after thirty years of care for Island residents. On June 1st, the Community Health Centers of Burlington (CHCB) opened a new practice in the same location. The Keeler Bay Health Center is now open and welcoming patients into CHCB's newest site. Some of our staff will be well known to Islanders; physician David Hobbs, MD and Susan Jacques, NP, (formerly of Keeler Bay Family Practice) are medical providers in the new practice. They are joined by Heather Stein, MD and Sarah Gerdeman, MSW, LDAC. CHCB opened the practice to ensure local residents can continue to easily access high quality primary care and add needed new services to the region.
As one of only eight Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) in Vermont, CHCB's Keeler Bay Health Center has a unique mission to offer the residents of South Hero, North Hero and Grand Isle. All services are offered on a sliding fee scale for eligible low income, uninsured residents. As an FQHC, we also offer the sliding fee scale for Medicare co-pays and waive the yearly deductible. Our Dental Center in Burlington will now offer eligible residents of these three towns the sliding fee scale for all dental services. Starting August 1st, Keeler Bay Health Center will expand services to include mental health and substance abuse counseling on site. We welcome all typical Vermont insurances, such as Blue Cross, MVP, Medicaid and Medicare. The Health Center has both convenient evening and Saturday morning hours and walk-in appointments are available for minor emergencies.
